“I Have to Teach The ‘English’ English”: Native-speakerism Ideology among the English Teachers

Native-speakerism is a crucial issue to discuss in ELT, especially related the different ideological views on World Englishes and ‘standard’ English. Differences ideology about English its variations have an impact teaching implementation. Many studies examined discrimination practices driven by native-speakerism educational contexts such as preference of teacher recruitment which prefers teachers who are considered native speakers. Although discussed ideology, not many from perspective Indonesia. This study, therefore, aims find out how widespread this among private school metropolitan Jakarta. It seeks explore dimensions various aspects profession. study interview-based research with seven participants. Data collection was done conducting individual interviews for 30-40 minutes then were analyzed descriptively identify recurring themes. The results showed that there traces speakerism Permata schools purist towards language culture. reflected they defined native-speakers depicted ownership English, learning beliefs, their practices.
